Alkagesta Promotes Anthony Guida to Biofuels Trading Desk Lead

Malta-headquartered commodity trading house Alkagesta has promoted Anthony Guida to Biofuels Trading Desk Lead, formalising his leadership of the division he helped establish and scale since its original launch last year, according to reporting by Biofuels International. Guida, who is based in Alkagesta’s Geneva office, brings ten years of broader energy markets experience to his new leadership role.

Prior to joining Alkagesta in January 2025, Guida built his career through key positions at S&P Global Platts, Phillips 66, and PETRONAS. Throughout his career, his professional focus progressed from crude oil market analysis to directing business strategy and corporate development across crude oil, biofuels, and carbon markets. Upon joining Alkagesta, he established a trading desk spanning the entire biofuels value chain, connecting niche waste and feedstock producers with mainstream European refiners of biodiesel, hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), alongside aggregators and blenders.

Under Guida's direction, Alkagesta achieved several operational milestones across European infrastructure and compliance frameworks. Key achievements included securing a multi-year storage agreement at the Pantank Antwerp terminal facilities. In January 2026, he led Alkagesta through a successful ISCC CORSIA certification process, enabling the company to trade and supply CORSIA-eligible sustainable aviation fuel.

The division’s commercial growth has also been underpinned by Alkagesta’s capital investment in a used cooking oil (UCO) processing facility. According to company operational figures, this asset investment enabled equity barrel volumes to increase from 734 to 1,860 tonnes. Alkagesta's biofuels trading desk now handles used cooking oil, food-waste-derived oils, soapstock acid oils, and biodiesel products, further extending its presence across the advanced biofuels value chain.

Accepting the promotion, Guida stated that the appointment represented a personal milestone and reflected progress made in establishing a certified, structured, and scalable biofuels trading platform, adding that he remains committed to taking the business to the next level.
